Place shaping offers councils and their partners an important and creative approach to building and shaping local identity, based on a clear understanding of what’s important to local people.
Tribal has a wealth of experience in helping agencies develop effective place shaping techniques that support the delivery of local area agreements and local strategic priorities.
Effective approaches to place shaping will provide a strong evidence base for the new Comprehensive Area Assessments that will commence in 2009.
Place shaping can include the following components:
- building and shaping local identity
- managing co-existence in a shared space
- representing the community
- maintaining the cohesiveness of the community and supporting debate within it
- working to make the local economy more successful while being sensitive to pressures on the environment
- working with other bodies to respond to complex challenges such as natural disasters and other emergencies
- understanding local needs and preferences and making sure that the right services are provided to local people
- creating public space (the 'outside') that encourages people to participate in communities and gives them confidence in their neighbourhoods.
- Tribal has expertise in all aspects of place making and a solid track record of successful delivery. We develop a carefully structured programme of activity that responds to local strengths and challenges.
We work with local partners to develop a range of place shaping tools that build on local capacity to best meet the needs of local people and the priorities they have identified and formulate strategies that address:
- strategic development
- partnership working
- capacity building
- place making.
