Complex, time consuming administrative processes will soon be a thing of the past now that the University of Queensland (UQ) has appointed Tribal to supply their new student admissions system.
As a leading public sector services company, Tribal is a trusted supplier to over 250 universities and colleges around the world, including the University of Sydney, University of Otago and New Zealand’s Waiariki Institute of Technology and Manukau Institute of Technology.
The University of Queensland’s Executive Director of Operations Maurie McNarn, AO, welcomed the news: “This new system will help the university meet the current and future demands of its admissions process from students across Australia and from all over the world. It will also help staff manage enquiries for research programmes, which is of growing strategic importance to UQ.”
Tribal’s new system will handle all postgraduate and undergraduate student admissions for the University - both international and domestic students - as well as enquiries to all research programmes offered by the University.
The new system encompasses all the major stages in the student lifecycle and includes features to support both staff and students: such as the ability to publish an online prospectus, personalised web portals for applicants and online application tracking. This means less duplication of effort and data, making the university more efficient.
Tribal’s Chief Operating Officer, Keith Evans, said: “We are delighted that The University of Queensland has chosen to work with Tribal and we look forward to supporting the University with this system. The project will provide efficiencies across their international admission and support their extensive research programmes which are prominent within the Australian higher education system.”
UQ plans to have preliminary functionality in place by Q3 2011 with the initial emphasis on post graduate coursework students.
UQ is one of the three Australian members of the global Universitas 21 alliance and is a founding member of the national Group of Eight: a coalition of leading Australian universities, intensive in research and comprehensive in general and professional education. Collectively, Group of Eight members:
- Account for 70% of all research income in Australia's university system
- Enrol more than half of all higher degrees for research students
- Hold over 90% of US patents for inventions
- Generate 80% of spin-off companies created by Australian universities.
- Ends -
