Manukau Institute of Technology (MIT) is one of New Zealand's leading providers of vocational and technical education, serving approximately 15,000 students across multiple campuses in Auckland. Recognised for its commitment to student success and educational excellence, MIT continually invests in technology that supports effective teaching, learning, and student administration.
To enhance the experience of academic staff and maximise the value of its student management ecosystem, MIT partnered with Tribal to modernise key staff-facing processes and improve access to critical student information.
As staff expectations evolved and digital ways of working became increasingly important, MIT identified an opportunity to modernise how academic teams accessed and managed student information.
The institution wanted a solution that would:
MIT also sought a trusted partner who could provide both technical expertise and project leadership, helping the organisation realise the full potential of its technology investment.
MIT worked closely with Tribal to deliver a modernised staff experience within its EBS student management environment.
The project began with a collaborative discovery process involving representatives from across the academic community. By engaging directly with end users, Tribal and MIT identified opportunities to improve workflows, enhance usability, and align the solution with the institution's long-term objectives.
Using an iterative delivery approach, the project was implemented in phases, allowing staff feedback to be incorporated throughout the process. This ensured the final solution reflected real-world requirements while supporting adoption across the organisation.
Alongside the technology implementation, Tribal provided project governance, change management, and stakeholder engagement support, helping MIT successfully navigate the transition and communicate benefits across the institution.
The modernised solution delivered significant benefits for academic staff and the broader organisation.
The success of this project was clear for MIT. Chris Park, Academic Registrar of Manukau Institute of Technology said:
“Having the implementation managed in this manner released the internal team to be able to work on other priorities, and to step back in to the project as required. It was especially useful to have Tribal’s expertise in project oversight. This allowed me, as the business owner of our student management systems, the assurance and confidence that the project was on track to meet target delivery timeframes and objectives."
MIT continues to leverage Tribal's EBS platform to support its mission of delivering outstanding educational outcomes. By modernising staff experiences and embracing continuous improvement, MIT is well positioned to adapt to changing student expectations, evolving educational requirements, and future opportunities for innovation.
