IHE just refreshed its Code of Governance. Does your evidence trail keep up?

IHE has published a refreshed Code of Governance for Independent Providers of Higher Education. While the Code's ten principles remain unchanged, the 2026 update strengthens guidance on board effectiveness, governance culture, student interests and risk management. For independent providers, it's a useful prompt to review whether governance processes, institutional data and supporting evidence remain aligned with current expectations.

A governance code refresh is a quiet kind of prompt. There's no deadline attached, which makes it easy to file away as background reading rather than something to act on. But a refreshed external benchmark is exactly the moment an institution's own governance documentation and evidence trail get checked against current expectations, ideally before a governance review, accreditation activity or regulatory scrutiny puts those processes under the spotlight.

For a CIO or IT Director at an independent HE institution, this connects to a familiar operational reality. Independent higher education institutions often operate non-standard academic structures, modular delivery models and specialist accreditation requirements, making flexibility and adaptability important considerations when reviewing core systems.

For MIS Managers, governance responsibilities sit alongside student records management, statutory returns and evolving regulatory expectations. Maintaining confidence in institutional data remains a key priority.

EBS supports a wide range of higher and further education providers across the UK, including independent higher education institutions. Its flexible configuration helps organisations manage complex academic structures, student records, curriculum management and compliance processes within a single platform. When academic, student and compliance data is maintained consistently within a single platform, governance reviews become significantly easier to support with evidence

IHE's code refresh isn't a compliance deadline. It's a benchmark. The institutions that treat it as a prompt to check their evidence trail now are the ones that won't do that same check under pressure later, with an accreditor waiting.
