Tribal support Student Minds in empowering the university community to prioritise student mental health.
Tribal Group are incredibly proud to announce a new partnership with Student Minds, the UK’s leading student mental health charity.
Now, more than ever, students at higher education institutions across the UK can find themselves struggling with their mental health and wellbeing. The pandemic has only exacerbated the already significant changes to social and academic student life and increased uncertainty about the future.
At Tribal, we recognise this as a serious challenge, for students themselves, and for the universities who strive to support their students and empower them to achieve their full potential. This is why we’ve partnered with Student Minds, to help students and members of the university community to look after their mental health, support others and create change. There are currently around 2.4 million students at UK universities, with 1 in 3 suffering clinical levels of psychological distress during these formative years. In 2021, 63% of students surveyed by the Office for National Statistics stated that their wellbeing and mental health had got worse in the last year.
This new partnership provides a unique opportunity for Tribal and Student Minds to share expertise, advice, and experiences. Working collaboratively, we hope to improve our understanding of the mental health crisis facing students and use our strengthened knowledge to provide universities with the right technology and software, to help students access the support they need, when they need it.
Student Minds works with students, service users, professionals, and academics to develop new and innovative ways to improve the mental health of students. With this partnership, Tribal is committed to bringing the conversations around student mental health to the forefront of the education community.
“Tribal is committed to supporting the student community and raising awareness of the importance of looking after student mental health. Educational institutions’ support services were under increasing pressure even before the pandemic and recent events have only added to that pressure. This partnership will enable us to do more to support the community, to ensure we have the right initiatives and tools in place to support student mental health and wellbeing. We very much look forward to working closely with Student Minds to enable universities to better support students throughout the student journey”.
Mark Pickett, Chief Operating Officer - Tribal
“Thank you to everyone at Tribal for your generous support of Student Minds, it’s a real pleasure to welcome you into our corporate partnership family as an ally of university mental health. We’re looking forward to shaping our partnership over the next 12 months and championing student and staff mental health together so that all in higher education can thrive.”

About Student Minds
Student Minds is the UK’s student mental health charity. We empower students and members of the university community to develop the knowledge, confidence, and skills to look after their own mental health, support others and create change.
We train students and staff in universities across the UK to deliver student-led peer support interventions, as well as research-driven campaigns and workshops. By working collaboratively across sectors, we share best practice and ensure that the student voice influences decisions about student mental health.
We are delivering Student Space to help students navigate university life during the coronavirus pandemic. Student Space is available to all higher education students across England and Wales and provides students with a trusted place to:
- Access direct support in a way that is right for them via text, phone, webchat or email
- Read and watch online resources to help them through the challenges of coronavirus
- Explore what support is available to them locally at their place of study
Together, we will transform the state of student mental health so that all in higher education can thrive. For more information, visit https://www.studentminds.org.uk/
